His research explores how justice for living communities is bound up with the material, political, and spiritual status of the dead and their burial grounds. He is the author of &#8220;Digging for the Disappeared: Forensic Science After Atrocity&#8221; (Stanford, 2015) and &#8220;Cemetery Citizens: Reclaiming the Past and Working for Justice in American Burial Grounds&#8221; (Stanford, 2024). A graduate of the Sequential Artist&#8217;s Workshop Year-Long Intensive Comics Program, Adam teaches courses on graphic ethnography and comics as research, often partnering with local organizations. He is working on a graphic novel that draws on his research about cemeteries and memorials, which is also partly a love letter to sad, sad indie rock bands and teenage friendship. Adam lives in Durham, North Carolina, where he also serves on the board of the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice.
